Cocktail attire can get very drab, very fast. Dressing up should be fun, out of the ordinary, but often times can put us in a box. The more events I go to, the more I am having to reinvent pieces in new ways to have that wow factor, and recently, that has included playful handbags, bright pumps, and jumpsuits. Jumpsuits are hands down, the easiest thing to style, and not as intimidating as they seem. With the upcoming fashion show happening this weekend, here is some outfit inspiration for your look!
Share the outfits you have planned with me using the hashtag #FTSOFStyle on Twitter and Instagram up until Friday, and there might be a sweet treat in your future. And let the games begin!

Winter is in full force, and lately, has not been showing any mercy. Along with the frigid conditions comes many, many layers of shirts, sweaters, and jackets. Last week, my friend and I ventured out to brunch at Fred’s at Barney’s New York.
There is nothing I hate more than dusting off my puffy, unflattering, knee length North Face, so I have avoided it like the plague. As an alternative to this, I mixed textures and bundled up. We wound up at the Museum of Contemporary Art, where I discovered their book shop. I wound up finding a hidden treasure deep within the stores book shelves: a copy of the coffee table book Harper’s Bazaar Greatest Hits. It now sits propped up on my desk and when I need a little inspiration, I flip through the pages.

More often than not, we let ourselves get so busy planning for a big event, that we forget the most important thing: what to wear. If you are currently thinking, “Yup!” then I have a solution for you.
Sometimes, it’s best to stick with a tried and true piece you already know looks killer, and then build upon that. Pick one piece in your closet, let’s say a pair pf black skinny jeans or a leather circle skirt, and add to that. I love mixing high and low, new and old. This can also be a good time to experiment and try a brocade sweatshirt with an unexpected bottom via Jenna Lyons and J. Crew.
Accessories can also transform an already worn outfit into something totally new. A black dress becomes transforms itself with a fringe belt and red pumps. Personally, I often opt to wear something I have already taken for a test drive a few times, simply because I already know I’m comfortable in it, it looks good, and I’m not going to have to worry about an issue with it (hello skirt riding up, not being able to breathe in a dress…) popping up later on during the night.
A few days back, I wrote about a midi skirt and crop top being the perfect outfit for New Years Eve. What’s the fun of going out, and looking like every other girl? Try something new. The overwhelming sea of girls around you at the bar will be in a short, tight dress, so why not stand out in an updated version of sexy? A sliver of stomach, an open back, a see-through chiffon top…there are endless possibilities.
(psss…since it’s after Christmas, most stores are having HUGE sales, so this is the perfect time to get something for yourself.)
Let’s face it, most of the time, it’s just fun to wear something new. Here are some picks to keep you from endlessly wandering through the cold streets of Chicago. See a piece you like here? Call the store ahead of time and make sure they have it in stock to save yourself the trip.

Now that we’re starting to see the sun shine in Chicago, it’s time we pack away those boots and parkas and turn to the runways to help us decide on this Springs hottest trends. The runways were full of different creations from checkered patterns at Louis Vuitton, the minimal black and white at Calvin Klein’s NY show, or the Indian inspired ensembles walking down Marchesa’s runway. I gathered up my top 3 favorite trends from the runway and how to re create them, without breaking the bank.
Pair these sweatshirts with some leather and heels and you’re good for a night out on the town.
