With the lakefront right at our front door in Chicago, I have a feeling leisurely Saturdays and Sundays will be spent in the sand playing paddle ball and reading magazines with our toes in the water. When you need to cover up a little more, ditch the over sized t-shirt you’ve had since 6th grade and go for something a little bit more grown up.
Cover-ups can be fun and fashionable at any price. I found five that I am currently lusting over and transition well from a day at the beach to a late afternoon beer at the bar. Accessorize with a bright plastic neon chain(like these I found on Etsy), or small gold hoops. Slick your hair back to keep a polished look, and you are good to go!

Chic comfort is the name of the game, and lately, I am all about it. During the week, I pack as much into every single day as possible, and the night usually ends with an event. While I love my fast paced life, I use the weekends to slow down and take a step back. This also means giving my feet a break from my beloved wedges and strappy Jimmy Choo sandals that I never seem to take off. My weekend style is casual, but never sloppy. I layer to the extreme, throw on zippered sweats, and a great pair of sneakers to run to brunch, or the farmers market, a meeting…wherever the day takes me. Wearing head to toe black is a no-brainer for me. However, Spring is just starting to peak its head around the corner, so out come the pops of color. My personal favorite right now is a bright solar blue pair by Adidas, called the Energy Boost 2.0., which you can easily pick up for yourself at Finish Line. They happen to match my favorite spring jacket, which makes it that much sweeter.

There is not a lot Nicole Richie hasn’t done. She shaved her eyebrows off when she was 11, had a hit reality show, and now is one of the top fashion icons…all while still saving time to tend to her at home garden. This past weekend at the Lucky Mag weekend, I found out that she wears dresses because her daughter loves it, and it was also her daughters request that she dye her hair lilac. While Richie looks like a princess in the eyes of her daughter, she showed up to FABB looking nothing short of glam rock. The piece that grabbed my attention? Her over-sized Givenchy floral blazer. Can’t afford to drop a cool $3,000? No problem. Here are some other floral options perfect for Spring!
1. Markus Lupfer floral sweatshirt. 2. Milly racer-back dress. 3. Koral floral skinny jeans. 4. Cartonnier botanical blazer. 5. Topshop floral shirt. 6. Alice & Olivia floral party skirt.

Winter was all about the dark colors and mixing textures…because what else can you really do when it’s -20 degrees outside?
For Spring, I am going polar opposite. I plan on finding every floral print I can, every pastel skirt Shopbop carries, and will hunt for the perfect matching two piece outfit. I’ve always loved the outfit set of a matching bra top and high waisted skirt. Surprisingly, it’s a little difficult to find under a $2,000 price range (One day I will buy the Dolce & Gabbana version!) With a lot of determination, I found my favorite at Topshop. Dress it up with a pair of nude wedges and a gold cuff, or down with a jean jacket and leather sandals.

December 2013
More often than not, we let ourselves get so busy planning for a big event, that we forget the most important thing: what to wear. If you are currently thinking, “Yup!” then I have a solution for you.
Sometimes, it’s best to stick with a tried and true piece you already know looks killer, and then build upon that. Pick one piece in your closet, let’s say a pair pf black skinny jeans or a leather circle skirt, and add to that. I love mixing high and low, new and old. This can also be a good time to experiment and try a brocade sweatshirt with an unexpected bottom via Jenna Lyons and J. Crew.
Accessories can also transform an already worn outfit into something totally new. A black dress becomes transforms itself with a fringe belt and red pumps. Personally, I often opt to wear something I have already taken for a test drive a few times, simply because I already know I’m comfortable in it, it looks good, and I’m not going to have to worry about an issue with it (hello skirt riding up, not being able to breathe in a dress…) popping up later on during the night.
A few days back, I wrote about a midi skirt and crop top being the perfect outfit for New Years Eve. What’s the fun of going out, and looking like every other girl? Try something new. The overwhelming sea of girls around you at the bar will be in a short, tight dress, so why not stand out in an updated version of sexy? A sliver of stomach, an open back, a see-through chiffon top…there are endless possibilities.
(psss…since it’s after Christmas, most stores are having HUGE sales, so this is the perfect time to get something for yourself.)
Let’s face it, most of the time, it’s just fun to wear something new. Here are some picks to keep you from endlessly wandering through the cold streets of Chicago. See a piece you like here? Call the store ahead of time and make sure they have it in stock to save yourself the trip.
