Polished Head To Toe

With drab fall days starting to become more frequent, it is becoming harder and harder to stay polished with our day to day style. While trying not to look like a Pumpkin Spice Latte (AKA b a s i c) is a regular challenge, it doesn’t have to be. Warm summer nights may seem ideal for fashion and beauty, fall offers much more variety in hues, styles, and trends. Although leggings and a t-shirt may seem appealing, try switching it up with some looks I created with Lyst. Lyst has a killer variety of designers, and great sales you can search with the click of a button. Now doesn’t that sound ideal?

The Perfect Fall Romper

A romper for fall? Don’t write my craziness off quite yet. I stumbled upon this black, woven romper on the Guess website. It’s the perfect base for fall layering. The tuxedo like front keeps it classy, while the bow tie at the neckline adds an ultra-feminine touch. Throw a long cardigan on over this with a leather jacket, and you are ready for whatever the day throws at you.

Birkenstocks: Back From The Dead

I never thought I would see the day where I would willingly put a pair of leather and cork sandals on my feet. It all started in high school. I went to a small, private school, where Birkenstocks were one of the few shoe options we were allowed. I truly, honestly, hated them. How was I supposed to express my creative freedom if I was being forced to slap a pair of blander than sand shoes on my feet? Exactly.

Fast forward to a few months ago, I was scrolling through my Instagam and fell in love with something far worse…Tevas. Now, we aren’t just talking about any Tevas, but a pair of Teva inspired Prada sandals. Obnoxious, jewel encrusted, Prada/Tevas. Get the picture? Good. While I did not see this coming, I’m glad it did. With a 90s normcore revival happening right now, we are seeing Birkenstocks, Tevas, and every other comfortable, kill me now if I am wearing these shoe coming back to life in great ways.

Personally, I am happy to see a revival in this trend. Long, sweaty summer days are not meant for running around in binding leather sandals and five inch wedges, but we make do because we want to look good and not ruin the rest of our outfit. Now? We can surf the J.Crew site (or the Prada site if we so choose) and find ten different options that will compliment our summer looks, not crush them. I picked up an all white pair a few days ago, and will probably wear them every day until they give out.

How do you feel about the trend?

Little White Dress

There are many things to love about Spring. Long walks exploring new parts of the city, eating outside, nature coming back to life…you get the picture. Another thing that I love? The freedom to throw on a dress and go out the door. Often we hear about the magic of the little black dress, but we forget about the little white dress that is equally as amazing. Throw it on with nude wedges, or pack a punch with bright orange peep-toe pumps…there are endless possibilities. Here are my top seven LWDs that you should be rocking right now:

Snap to Win

Von Z was founded by Chicago designer Jenna Zielbauer and her husband Patrick Zielbauer last year. Right in the heart of Bucktown, Von Z has stood out among all the amazing shopping due to its curated selection and attainable items. On Von Z’s website, it states: “Looking good does not have to break the bank and it certainly doesn’t necessitate wearing only big name brands found at major department stores.” I could not agree more.

Von Z is currently running an Instagram contest. All you have to do is snap a picture, tag it with #SPRINGFORVONZ, and you are entered to win a $100 in their store. What could be better than that?

The Mid

December 2013

Midi skirts have become a fabulous, alternative bottom in the last few months, and have been seen in everyones collections from Tibi to Oscar de la Renta. While browsing in Topshop last week, my eyes were hooked on a luxe, dark green, version that I had to go touch, stare at, and imagine all the ways it could be worn. Soon there after, I noticed the matching crop top and had a mini heart attack. There is nothing I love more than a great midi/crop top combo. This outfit could be paired with velvet Mary Jane pumps and a red lip. It is also a great alternative to the skanky sequin mini dresses we are sure to see every girl prancing around in on New Year’s Eve. Here’s to hoping this look goes on sale sometime in the near future. Fingers crossed.

My Five

December 2013

When I find a store, or website, that I love, I keep going back and get in the rut of shopping mainly at the same places. To keep myself from that, I have been scoping out other brands and sites that offer a good variety of things I like. This is where I got the idea to start a weekly post called “My Five.” Once a week, I’ll write about a new website or store, and pick five of my favorite things. Who knows…something might wind up being your favorite thing too.

This week, I chose The Goodhood Store. When opened in 2007, it was focused on bringing like-minded, original, designers together for a curated mix of goods. Now in 2013, it still stands by that mission, and has grown to be loved by many. It was hard for me to choose only five things I liked, but it had to be done. The Goodhood Store has brands that can be hard to find, along with unique jewelry, accessories, and homegoods. I can’t say no to that.
