I recently attended an event hosted by Mario Tricoci at the Allerton Hotel downtown. The event included 50 contestants who were strutting the runway for seven final spots in the ‘Mario, Make Me A Model’ competition.
In order to be considered the models took to the runway displaying their walks to the judges. I loved seeing the different styles displayed, as the models were able to choose what they wanted to wear. The competition is Chicago exclusive, because Mario insists on having his models only come from Chicago. The program first started in 2008, and there have been over 2,000 contestants who have come to open model calls.
Many of the finalists have agreed that this contest has been a launching pad for their careers, even if they were just a runner up. You can vote for your favorite of the seven finalists, up until the Grand Finale Fashion Show on May 16th, being held at The Museum of Broadcast Communication.
Here were my favorite looks:

Cocktail attire can get very drab, very fast. Dressing up should be fun, out of the ordinary, but often times can put us in a box. The more events I go to, the more I am having to reinvent pieces in new ways to have that wow factor, and recently, that has included playful handbags, bright pumps, and jumpsuits. Jumpsuits are hands down, the easiest thing to style, and not as intimidating as they seem. With the upcoming fashion show happening this weekend, here is some outfit inspiration for your look!
Share the outfits you have planned with me using the hashtag #FTSOFStyle on Twitter and Instagram up until Friday, and there might be a sweet treat in your future. And let the games begin!

Von Z was founded by Chicago designer Jenna Zielbauer and her husband Patrick Zielbauer last year. Right in the heart of Bucktown, Von Z has stood out among all the amazing shopping due to its curated selection and attainable items. On Von Z’s website, it states: “Looking good does not have to break the bank and it certainly doesn’t necessitate wearing only big name brands found at major department stores.” I could not agree more.
Von Z is currently running an Instagram contest. All you have to do is snap a picture, tag it with #SPRINGFORVONZ, and you are entered to win a $100 in their store. What could be better than that?
