StreetStyleChi Fashion Show…Wut?

Hey guys!
So as you may have seen all over social media today, StreetStyleChi is having a major fashion show with DePaul! We are partnering with UNICEF and PANGEA (two amazing charities both bennefitting children) to bring you a bomb ass show with major designers. With this being said, we need models. We are having an open casting call for all males and females on January 10th in DePaul Student Center, room 324, from 4-6PM. Have class? We may have a second casting call so shoot me an email expressing interest. If chosen for the show, there will be chances to meet with FORD Models. This is going to be a major event, so get ready. We have designers and counting signed up for looks, some you might recognize from previous posts. So, with this being said, I hope to see you at the casting call, and if you would like to get involved in any other way, you can send me an email. Our committee is working very hard on this, and the more the merrier!

Just Discovered: Ambush Designs

This week on StreetStyleChi, we’re going to do things a little differently. Our style is ever evolving, and we are constantly discovering new things that we love. As I start to explore new brands, I cannot believe I did not know about them before. So for the next 5 or 6 days, I am going to profile a different brand that I’ve recently stumbled upon, and hopefully you like it too. Even if you don’t, it’s just good to be cultured in your fashion knowledge.
While flipping through Wad magazine this morning in Barnes & Noble, my eye caught a shiny gold POW necklace that I could not get out of my head all day. While talking with my friend Davey later on, I learned that it was a part of the POW collection by a Japanese jewelery brand: Ambush Design. Popularized by major rappers in recent times, it is a popular label among people with an urban sense of style. I fell head over heels for these playful pieces right away. I love dope jewelery that you would not normally see everyone walking around in. These necklaces would be great on their own, or layered with other chains. The rings come in every color under the sun, and would add the perfect touch to any outfit. Maybe you’ll see me cruising around campus with these on one day.

Currently Craving: Ashish

While I try to steer away from impersonal posts, I have been lusting after Ashish for quite some time, and could not contain my enthusiasm to myself any longer. I first spotted Ashish a while back on ChiCityFashion and have not stopped thinking about the crazy tops since. Not one piece is “normal.” Each has its own crazy saying emblazoned across the front, which makes me adore each piece that much more. One thing that I love, is quirkiness in an outfit. Ashish is all about out of the ordinary. A normal person who does not know a thing about fashion, would not understand this. Ashish takes something likes sequins, which is usually very sexy, and tones it down. Check out Ashish for yourself. I hope you fall as hard for these pieces as I have.

My Week in Instagram Pictures: New York

It’s my first post of the New Year! So…Happy New Year you fashionable bitches! Hope you had fun, and looked fabulous.

This past week, I had the pleasure of spending some time in New York with my family. Along with eating plate after plate at amazing restaurants, I got to see the city decked out for Christmas. While I love Chicago, we really need to step up our game when it comes to Christmas decorations. Unfortunitly, it was snowing, so I did not get to do any street style. One of the things I enjoyed most about the city, and have noticed on trips there in the past, is the fashion. The men and women of New York dress in a way that stands out. While running around in Chicago, I often see women in sweatpants, Uggs, and full make up. If you have enough time to do your make up, you have enough time to put on a decent outfit. In New York, this would never fly. So, people of Chicago, take a lesson from New York residents, and start dressing like you truly should.
The high light of my trip, boils down to a trip to Harry Winston with my Father. I have been a long time fan of the jewelery house, and was in sheer awe of the wonders that awaited me. I can’t wait to get some of my own HW in the future.

Street Style in Chicago

Faux fur and burgundy have appeared in every store in the recent months, and it’s no different on the streets of Chicago. At the St. Cru fashion show, there were plenty of stylish faces to see, and tons of pictures to snap. Here’s a bit of street style to hold you over until the new year. All of these outfits are also great for cold weather, so you can grab some inspiration as well.

Trash + Fashion = Trashion

“No actual fabric can be used in the garment.” This was the assignment our professor gave us in ATD 121 to complete as a final design project. The challenge of this project was to manipulate 2-Dimensional objects to fit the 3-Dimensional form. We believed with a little imagination, creativity, and adventurous spirit we could make almost anything into a fashion statement! Below are some of the fabulous frocks made of the most unusual, sustainable, recycled materials to create some extraordinary and mind blowing garments! Hopefully this will inspire you to roll up your sleeves and try turning some trash into a treasure of your own!

New Years Eve in Chicago

“What are you doing for New Years Eve?”

I have heard this question time and time again, and I am sure that you have too. While I may not be kissing anyone at midnight, I will be surrounded by close friends, and of course…dressed to kill. New Years is an excuse to go all out and look your best, so why not? I have searched high and low for some killer outfits you can whip out. You know every other girl is going to be in a tight sequin dress…make a daring move and go for something different. I love precious metals and leather booties, and will be incorporating those trends into my look. While sequins are still at the top of my list, I chose a few dresses that will stand out amongst others. Not a dress person? Pick a fun top that flatters your shape and run with it.

Going to the it party of Chicago? Considering that it’s fashion involved, you want to make a good impression. This is what you might catch me wearing on New Years. Good luck!

1. Haute Hippie Lace Metallic Legging
These leggings are a great alternative to jeans, and can be worn in multiple ways even after the New Year. Wear it with a loose white tank top, black lace bra, and leather booties for a laid back New Years Eve look.
2.  Blaque Label Feather Party Dress
This is the quintessential New Years Eve dress. The bustier top adds a bit of sex appeal, but the feathers keep the dress playful and unique. Paid it with strappy heels and a tuxedo jacket.
3.  Topshop Baroque Print Bodycon Dress
Personally, I love a great patterned dress. This one has gold trim to flatter curves, and a pattern to hide unsightly lumps. Gold foil booties would top this off.
4. Bailey 44 Faux Leather Window Pane Dress
Do not even get me started on this dress. There are endless ways to wear it. The leather is on trend for this season, but not over kill because of the paneling. Messy hair and platform booties would push this over the edge.

1.  Parker Embellished Camisole Dress
Green can be an intimidating color to wear, but it’s one of my favorites. Not a lot of people pick this color so you will definitely stand out, in a good way. I love the unusual back on this. Go with simple accessories to not kill the look.
2. Gryphon Confetti Miniskirt
Sparkle is always fun, but in doses. The shoes this is already paired with are perfect, but I would put my own spin on this with a boyfriend style concert T-shirt. Tuck it in.
3. French Connection ‘Moonray’ V-Neck Colorblock Sequin Dress
While I am not an advocate of short sequin dresses, this one got me because of the cut. The sequin blocking will help accentuate a small waist and give you a nice hourglass shape.
4. Christina Karin Whitney
The unexpected ruffle adds drama to this playful dress. Throw on a pair of red pumps, and you’re ready to go.

 1. Topshop Collar Tip Shirt
Lately, I am a large fan of the sheer oxford. It’s an unexpected touch to an outfit, and a great alternative to a tank top. Pair it with leather leggings for a house party, or a leather skirt for a night out.
2. Cotton Candy Couture Addison
This dress is uncommon and the color itself says it all. I own this dress, so I can personally vouch that it will look perfect on you. If I wear this on New Years, you’ll see me in classic black pumps, and a metallic clutch.
3. BDG Twig High-Rise Jean – Metallic Stripe
Metallic jeans are a huge trend right now, and I think it’s great. You can pair this with a peplum top, or dress these up with a black sequin top. I would not wear these with the cheetah print wedges as shown, but more of a strappy Mary-Jane pump.
4. Reformed By The Reformation Tsunami Dress
This dress has the potential to be very casual, so depending on how you want to look, you would have to be careful. You could pair it with black combat boots and a great cross body bag for a NYE spent with friends.
5. PARTY STARTED SEQUIN T-SHIRT
French Connection helped to dress the standard tshirt up. While this is not as formal as my other options, you could wear this wih skinny jeans and booties for an over all flattering look.
6. Topshop Big Gem Sweat
A sweatshirt? On New Years? YES. Pair this with a sequin skirt and wedges to dress it up. At least you’ll be comfortable all night.

What’s the best accessory for New Years…or…really…anytime? Your hair! I would visit Blowtique for an affordable, but fabulous service. Well done hair is the different between looking average, and taking over a room. Personally, I would go with “The Sunset-LA” which will give you a smooth, yet lightly tousled head of hair. Look out for a feature on them soon!
