New Spot To Try: Sophie’s at Saks Fifth Avenue

It’s no secret that I have a love of fashion and food, so when the two are combined, I go a little bit crazy. Sophie’s is a new American restaurant perched on the 7th floor of Saks Fifth Avenue Chicago. Set on the magnificent mile, it’s the perfect place to grab a bite while power shopping your way through the Gold coast. One of the first things I wondered when this opened, was “Why name it Sophie’s? Saks explains:

“Long before the advent of so many wonderful American fashion designers, there was a young woman with a sharp eye, profound creativity and a punchy wit. For more than 40 years Sophie Gimbel presided over couture at Saks. The first American designer (male or female) to grace the cover of TIME magazine, she scoured the globe for inspiration and fabric. But, at a time when the fashion world embraced Paris and Milan, and dismissed the U.S., Sophie always returned to New York to design with American style. She was a savvy businesswoman and an avid gardener (who even canned her own fruits and vegetables) who loved entertaining (at home and in a nightclub she helped fund), embracing a simple style in all she did.”
