Oscars Red Carpet Review: Brian Weighs In

Like most people, I find watching award ceremonies painfully boring. I only really want to know who won the major awards: Best Actor/ Actress, Best Motion Picture, etc. Also, like everyone else I take the most pleasure in watching the red carpet to see who has the best stylist and who needs to fire their stylist. This year at the Oscars there were so many good looks, but the ones that won my heart were Charlize Theron, Zoe Saldana, and Salma Hayek.

Charlize Theron, of course, wore Dior Haute Couture and Harry Winston jewelry. Theron’s dress was a beautiful pure white color. The bodice like top with the V neck  looked stunning on her, but then again…what doesn’t look good on her? The peplum of the dress had jewel embellishments on it, which added the perfect touch to this simple dress. The peplum also added a shape to the dress which would have been too plain without it. Her edgy hair and bracelets were the perfect way to top off this look that made her the most gorgeous celebrity of the night.

Zoë Saldaña wore Alexis Mabille. The top of Saldaña’s dress was perfectly structured and added lots of shape to her petite body. The embellishments at the top were not overly distracting, as sometimes can happen, and she made a perfect choice by not wearing a necklace. The belt of the dress perfectly accentuated her waist and gave her added hip. The extra pop this dress needed came from the darkening shades of grey fabric that flowed at the bottom of the dress. Saldaña’s Alexis Mabille dress was the perfect choice for the 2013 Oscars.

Salma Hayek wore an Alexander McQueen dress and clutch to this years Oscars. Hayel looked magnificent in this black column dress. With a dress like this, there are a lot of ways to over do it (wearing your hair wrong, too many accessories, or not enough accessories, etc.), Hayek managed to do it all right. Her hair perfectly swept into a bun did not distract from her, or the dress. The gold clutch was the perfect accent, and because selma has a voluptuous body, the dress didn’t hide her shape or outshine her beauty.

These women found a way to work in perfect harmony with their dresses, one of the hardest things to do. None of them outshined their dress and more importantly none of their dresses out shined them. Who were your picks for best dressed?
